California holds three of the top ten most populous cities in the United States of America: Los Angeles, San Jose and San Diego. More immigrants settle in California than in any other state. But despite the high population density of those cities, there are still some shockingly remote places. For example, there is one county, the Alpine county, that has no high school. It does not even have an ATM, banks, or even traffic lights. Talk about remote! California has famous nicknames which include The Land of Milk and Honey, The El Dorado State, The Golden State, and The Grape State. It has "Eureka" as the official state motto. It is translated as "I have found it." It was adopted in 1849 because of the discovery of Sierra Nevada's gold.   

Sacramento is the state's capital. It was believed that the name has been derived from a Garcia Ordonez de Montalvo book entitled 'Las Sergas de Esplandian' written in 1510. Queen Califia rules the mythical Spanish island in the book. It was later developed into California. The state entered the union on September 9, 1850. It became the 31st state. California is the center of America's movie and television industry, Hollywood. It is also the home of General Sherman, a 2,500-year-old sequoia. California is the nation's primary agricultural state.  

There are several celebrities buried at famous Hillside Cemetery in Culver City, some are those of Al Johnson, Percy Faith, Eddie Canter, George Jessel and Jack Benny.
