About Quernheim Funeral Home
H. Quernheim Company was founded in Maeystown in 1858 by Balthasar Heinrich Quernheim who immigrated to America from Germany in 1854. As a skilled cabinetmaker he was called upon to make coffins. Prior to 1930, funerals and visitations were held in the family's residence. The first funeral parlor opened in Waterloo in 1930. The funeral home moved again in 1937 and once more in 1988 to its current location. The Quernheim Funeral Home is still family owned and operated.
