The Winchester Cemetery was established in 1854. One provision of the Articles of Incorporation was "The land and appurtenances when conveyed to said Company shall be held solely and exclusively for a cemetery and ornamental grounds connected therewith and shall never be alienated, sold, or used for any other purpose whatsoever". It is owned by the lot owners and operated by an elected board of directors.
