History

. Baker City is a city in and the county seat of Baker County, Oregon County, Oregon, United States. The population was 9,860 at the United States Census 2000 census, with an estimated population of 10,105 in 2007.[http://www.pdx.edu/media/p/r/prcCertifiedRelease_07_web_cities.pdf PSU:Population Research Center]

Although a post office was established on March 27, 1866, Baker City was not incorporated until 1874. In 1911 the city dropped "City" from its name, but restored it in the late 1980s in recognition of its history and to further encourage tourism. The administrative offices has since been relocated to Bend, Oregon In 1952, the name was changed to the Diocese of Baker.
