Chebanse is a village in Chebanse Township, Iroquois County, Illinois Township, Iroquois County, Illinois County in the US state of Illinois; the north portion of the town lies in Otto Township, Kankakee County, Illinois Township, Kankakee County, Illinois County. The population was 1,148 at the United States Census, 2000 census. . "Chebanse" means "duckling" in the Potawatomi language. The Kankakee County portion of Chebanse is included in the Kankakee, Illinois Illinois Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Chebanse was established in 1854 as the first stop on the Illinois Central Railroad south of Kankakee, Illinois.
