History
The village of Hessmer was incorporated in 1955, but the name was first noted for the community when William Edenborn named the depot there when building his railroad through the area in 1903. In 1955 the town was incorporated, according the book 'Hessmer Station, A Railroad Community turns 100 ' authored by Arlene Flanders and Randy DeCuir. The population was 642 at the 2000 United States Census census.
The town was named by William Edenborn, railroad tycoon, who named the depot which came through the area, between the communities of Norma and Corner, in 1902. Hessmer is a village in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana Parish, Louisiana, United States. .
