History
Denmark is a recreational area located on the shores of Moose Pond.
The land was once part of Pequawket (now Fryeburg, Maine village of the Sokokis Abenaki Indigenous peoples of the Americas Attacked by Captain John Lovewell (Junior) Lovewell in 1725 during Dummer's War, the tribe abandoned the area and fled to Canada. The population was 1,004 at the 2000 United States Census census. That country's capital, Copenhagen, was attacked in 1801 and 1807 by the Royal Navy, which in 1775 had attacked Portland, Maine Farmers found the soil to be very stony and sandy, producing fair yields of potatoes, Maize and oats. Today, the town is noted for its summer camps. Denmark is a town in Oxford County, Maine County, Maine, United States.
