History

Hancock is a town in Hancock County, Maine County, Maine, United States. 8, the town was incorporated by the Maine State Legislature legislature on February 21, 1828 and named for John Hancock. It had two water power sites to operate watermill -- the Kilkenny and Egypt streams. Other products included barrel lumber, boots, shoemaking wagons and sleighs. There was one gristmill, four roof shingle mills and four lath mills. Located on the mainland at the head of Frenchman Bay, Hancock has commanding views of Mount Desert Island.
