"The name was given in honor of Superintendent Firth of the Atchison & Nebraska Railroad. Firth is a village in Lancaster County, Nebraska County, Nebraska, United States. A recently constructed bridge was being tested under load, it collapsed and killed the inspecting engineer for whom the town site was then named.
