Plummer's Ledge Natural Area is on the north boundary. 1910 . When John Wentworth (governor) Wentworth succeeded his uncle as governor, one of his first acts was to grant the tract to a group of settlers, naming it 'Wentworth' in his uncle's honor. Part of the White Mountain National Forest is in the northeast. The town has a picturesque common land presided over by a Federal style architecture style church and bordered by antique homes.
First chartered in 1766, this town was originally reserved for the private use of Colony Governor Benning Wentworth.
