History

By 1851, the attacks caused the United States to take action to protect its people just to the north of the border, in the Mesilla Valley. Mesilla (also known as La Mesilla) is a town in Doña Ana County, New Mexico Ana County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 2,180 at the 2000 United States Census census. In 2008, the Roman Catholic parish church of Albinus of Angers Albino was raised to the status of minor basilica by the Holy See. La Mesilla Historic District, which includes Mesilla Plaza, was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1961.
