In 1905, Hiram Cronk, the last veteran of the War of 1812, died in Ava. The population was 725 at the 2000 census. The population began with 9 people, grew to its largest 1,260 in 1860, but by 1920, was 610. The name allegedly comes from a location in Burma.
The town was formed on May 12, 1797 from land from the Boonville (town), New York of Boonville and the major settlement in the area, Ava Corners. Ava is a town in Oneida County, New York County, New York, United States.
