History
The first Norway community in the United States was begun in the town in 1825, but many of the settlers later moved to Illinois. The population was 2,838 at the 2000 census. It was formerly called "North Murray" and was settled slowly due to swampy terrain, being called the "Black North," due to the bogs and forests. Kendall is a town in Orleans County, New York County, New York, United States. The Town of Kendall was incorporated in 1835 from the Murray, New York of Murray.
