The French—Scottish derivatives of Glencadia apparently mean a \"creek region of simple pleasures.\" The name seemed to change in the early 19th century although a book published in 1914 refers to the village by the name Glencadia, not Stuyvesant Falls.The hamlet includes a substantial textile mill dating to the 19th Century and a hydro-electric plant. The word \"Glencadia\" is popular with local businesses and organizations, including the dairy Glencadia Farms, the Glencadia Road and Gun Club, and Glencadia Dog Camp.
