Willshire was founded by Captain James Riley (Captain) Riley and is named for the man who saved him while he was a captive in Africa, William Willshire. Willshire is a village (United States)#Ohio in Van Wert County, Ohio Wert County, Ohio, United States with a population of 463 as of the United States Census, 2000 US census. Willshire served as the first county seat for Van Wert County. A replica of the first courthouse sits in the village park. .
