Idabel is a city in McCurtain County, Oklahoma, United States. A ceremony was held for the renaming of the town. It is the county seat of McCurtain County, Oklahoma County . The town is located in a cultural area of the state known as Little Dixie (Oklahoma) Dixie and the tourist area Kiamichi Country.

The city was first named Pernell, then renamed for the wife of a Missouri Kansas Texas Railroad executive and engineer, John Randolph Dillon who, as a result of his work, was given the prize of re-naming the town. The population was 7,158 at the United States Census, 2000 census.
