The southern two-thirds is part of the Sioux City, IA-NE-SD Metropolitan Statistical Area, while the northern one-third is part of the Sioux Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Beresford Republic is the weekly newspaper.

History

The city was renamed after Lord Charles Beresford and was formally incorporated on July 12, 1884. Beresford is a city in Lincoln County, South Dakota and Union County, South Dakota counties in the US state of South Dakota. The population was 2,006 as of the United States Census, 2000 census. The southern two-thirds is part of the Sioux City, Iowa City, Iowa Sioux City metropolitan area Statistical Area, while the northern one-third is part of the Sioux Falls, South Dakota Falls Sioux Falls metropolitan area Statistical Area. The 'Beresford Republic' is the weekly newspaper.

Before the city was incorporated, the town was known as Paris, Dakota Territory.
