History

The population was 185 at the 2000 United States Census census.

According to the Hastings Gazette, (April 6, 1878, page 4, column 5) and the Holy Rosary Parish Book Committee: Nicholas Friedrich Wilhelm Kranz (1841-1925) along with his brothers Johann Kranz (1832-1916), Mathais Kranz (1830-1921), and Paul Ferdinand Kranz (1832-1892) came from Dakota County on March 1878 looking for a place to settle. It is part of the Watertown, South Dakota Watertown micropolitan area Statistical Area. Peter Railway. Friends John Baptist Hanton (1859-1940)and others believed to be Michael Ludwig, Frank Marx, Nicholas Haan, Joseph Stumpf, and Joseph J. The Hastings Gazette (April 10, 1878) affirms that NFW and brothers "purchased 5 sections of RR land, Codington County, Dakota Territory.." NFW then went to Chicago to set up a town depot and repair destroyed tracks.
