Pasadena /ˌpæsəˈdiːnə/ is a city in the U.S. state of Texas, within Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. As of the 2010 U.S. Census, the city's population is 149,043 making it the seventeenth most populous city in the state of Texas as well as the second-largest city in Harris County. The area was founded in 1893 by John H. Pasadena is home to the annual Pasadena Strawberry Festival. In 1900 a hurricane decimated Galveston forcing a number of people to settle in Pasadena. The Red Cross donated 1.5million strawberry plants to the area. The plants thrived and Pasadena came to be known as the "Strawberry Capital of the World." At one point farmers were able to produce 28 train car loads a day.
