History

Napavine is a city in Lewis County, Washington County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,361 at the 2000 United States Census census.

Napavine was officially incorporated as a town on November 21, 1913, but settlers began arriving in 1850 and named the area Napawyna after a Newaukum Indian tribal princess. The area was changed to its current name, Napavine, in 1883. . It has also been noted that the name was derived in 1883 by Scottish immigrant, James Urquart, from the Indian world NAPAVOON meaning "small prairie".
