It was named after Golden Franklin Row's grandfather. The population was 450 at the 2000 census.
Junior, West Virginia was originally known as Row Town, Virginia. Junior is a town in Barbour County, West Virginia County, West Virginia in the USA, along the Tygart Valley River. After Davis' son drowned off the coast of Africa in 1897, the elder Davis asked that the town name be changed in memory of his son. In the late 19th century, Henry Gassaway Davis, at the time a United States Senator Senator, founded the Junior Coal Company and named it after his son, Henry Gassaway Davis, Jr.
